Educator to Industry Cairns
On Wednesday 8 June, the #ictgisp joined with the Advanced Manufacturing GISP to host an ‘Educator to Industry’ networking breakfast for contacts from schools and industry in Cairns, including Bentley Park College (ICT GISP), Cairns State High School (AM and ICT GISP), Smithfield State High School, Trinity Bay State High School (AM Connection School), and Woree State High School.
20 local and Brisbane-based guests were in attendance, with representatives from the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training, TAFE QLD, Micromelon Robotics, Future Computers, as well as the Regional Manufacturing Hub.
The panel discussion delved into issues facing schools and industry with regard to the current skills shortage, and also looked at current initiatives and ideas for addressing some of these concerns. After some engaging discussion over breakfast, participants had the opportunity to engage with the newly built TAFE VR Studio and got hands on with some Hololens mixed reality. They also got to experience the Metaverse and virtually join a meeting room with another human represented virtually right beside them in the meeting.
We thank the following organisations who supported this event: DESBT, the VR learning Design Hub, TAFE QLD – Cairns, and the Regional Manufacturing Hub.
