Girls Day Out in STEM 2024
On March 5th in the lead up to International Women’s Day 2024 we were proud to attend the Girls Day Out in STEM (GDOS) event held at KENG Tudor Park, Loganholme.
This event brought together 112 girls from schools in and around Loganholme with representatives from many companies. Organisations included - but were not limited to - TAFE Queensland, Queensland XR Hub, NAB, Shine Lawyers, Wing, ADF, Axiom, Powerlink, Mini Boss and Suncorp, all volunteering their time to inspire young girls and build passion for working in STEM.
Students from these local schools were able to get hands on with different technology and to listen to presentations about financial literacy, future jobs, careers with STEM and critical technologies of the future. They won prizes and collected swag all while they were seeing first-hand the types of skills that are going to be helpful to their future.
During their lunch break, there was an easter egg hunt with a difference, and the students were delighted to have WING deliver tasty chocolate treats via drone, all safely delivered without any breakages.
To finish off the day, students were able to watch their Q & A session come to life on the screen above the presenters via visual storyteller Indi Dust. Her unique style of recording events, meetings and strategy sessions was a big hit with both the girls and the industry presenters.
The ICT GISP looks forward to being part of many upcoming fantastic QLD initiatives that #CountHerIn.
