Setting up an Esports program? We can help!
Engaging in Esports within a school setting offers a diverse range of benefits, particularly in boosting student engagement, fostering inclusion, and developing essential skills. ‘Leading Australian educator MJ Raatz has reported that the Forest Lake State High School Esports program 'has been extremely popular, with over 200 students participating and absenteeism significantly reduced. Many students who had below 80% attendance were now achieving >95%.’ (MJ Raatz, 2023, Schools Plus Teaching Awards, https://www.schoolsplus.org.au/teaching_awards/mj-raatz/)
The structured, team-based nature of Esports is especially supportive for neurodivergent students, providing a safe and inclusive environment where they can build confidence and social skills. Senior students often take on roles by managing teams and organising events, which helps cultivate leadership and organisational abilities.
Esports also strengthens school culture by connecting students across different year levels and backgrounds, encouraging peer relationships and a sense of belonging. It promotes critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration, while introducing students to key STEM concepts such as data analysis, game theory, and digital citizenship. These experiences not only enrich students’ learning journeys but also help prepare them for future pathways in technology, cybersecurity and the broader digital economy.
