Sharing the Love – How ACS’s Support of One ICT GISP School is Spreading to Many
Busy Schools Shailer Park is an alternative school campus situated not in an education zone, but instead within a trade park in Logan, south of Brisbane. As a long-standing member of the Queensland Government funded ICT Gateway to Industry Pathways (GISP) program managed by ACS, it was a prime candidate for new project manager Jonathan Nalder to visit and discover what such a different learning environment looks like.
The learning spaces were notable for their smaller sizes and variable layouts, and the campus features several mini-lounge zones, inspiration walls, greenery and bright colours. Jonathan also got to meet with Charli Bell, the school’s Employment Pathways Officer to chat how opportunities coming up in the GISP program can support her work.
Busy Schools Shailer Park is actually part of the wider Busy Schools network, an alternative Education provider for Year 11 and 12 students seeking direct entry into trades and jobs. Wednesday 22nd January saw over 30 Employment Officers from campuses around Queensland come together for the first time to train and network ahead of students returning. Jonathan had the privilege of sharing several ACS and Queensland government resources such as the Young Tech Ambassador program and My Digital Career Survey that can be accessed by all the campuses.
There was great interest from everyone present, with more contact now to come across the year!
