RoboRave 2023: Tech Skills Training and Team Work

Robotics - a combination of hardware, software, coding, problem solving and teamwork.

The ICT GISP promotes robotics within its schools by hosting four RoboRave Rookie events in Cairns, Townsville, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Our first event for the year was hosted by Saint Stephen's College. McAuley College travelled all the way from Beaudesert with their rookies and a fantastic day was had by all.

Through these events, our schools can:

  • Develop the teamwork needed for Sumo competitions
  • Use the skills and knowledge learned in Digital Technologies classes and robotics clubs to complete tasks
  • Explore different robots types
  • Hear from tech industry reps about pathways and careers in robotics, mechatronics and automation
  • Have fun!

Student Jago had a great question for the presenters about studying robotics at University, and clearly relished the chance to learn in a fun environment. 'I had fun doing programming and using robotics, and I think it's something I would like to study in university', he noted at the end of the day.

Casey McManus, robotics group chaperone and Digital Technologies teacher saw great value in the training. 'Thank you so much for the day, the kids could not stop talking about how much fun they had. The winning team were in my Digital class after the event and they were positively beaming!'

The Gateway to Industry Schools program is funded and supported by the Queensland Government.
