ICT GISP Townsville Educator to Industry Networking Event
March 2022
ICT GISP Connects Local Tech Leaders and Educators in Townsville
On Tuesday 15 March, the #ictgisp held an 'Educator to Industry' networking event for contacts from the five ICT GISP schools in Townsville.
40 local and Brisbane-based guests were in attendance. We were privileged to host the Mayor, Cr. Jenny Hill, as well as representatives from the Departments of Employment, Small Business and Training and Community Housing and the Digital Economy.
The panel discussion unpacked what was needed locally to promote careers in tech, upskill students and teachers and build a bigger pipeline of tech workers in this innovative city. After breakfast, our teachers had a chance to talk directly to local tech companies and employers about what they need to produce students who will follow a tech career pathway. After that lively discussion, guests were able to delve in to the worlds of Virtual Reality and drones.
Our schools now have a wider range of tech mentors to integrate into Digital Technologies teaching and learning and work place experiential learning.
We thank the following individuals and organisations who supported this event: Townsville City Council Smart Precinct NQ, Miranda Mears, Cubic Defence Australia & NZ, The Cathedral School of St Anne & St James, Australian Institute of Marine Science and SafetyCulture.
