Term 3, 2023

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Almost the end of Term 3 now! Since we are in the extra exhausting phase of term 3, deep into assessments and planning, we wanted to give you a psychological rest in the form of a Spot the Difference puzzle, inspired by Summer. Plus, if you enter our competition (and get the answer right), you will be entered into our competition for a chance to win a pamper hamper, plus you will help us ensure that we have the right contact details for you and your school.

This term we also took part in National Science week - themed Innovation – we had an article published in the Information Age here - I welcome any views about how we can nurture innovation in our young people.

This edition also has a celebration of what we have achieved together; we look to reduce our emails and increase collaboration by using TEAMs; we have added an new section called “Helping Hand” where we have provided ready to use lesson plans – all curriculum 9.0 aligned – perfect for the last week of term; and as always, and welcoming new schools to the GISP – we are at 50 schools.

TEAMs

In the spirit of making our communication more efficient, we are planning to use TEAMs as a place for collaboration, sharing best practice and sharing events. You will soon receive a link inviting you to join our TEAM.

Update your Contact Details

Nobody likes an inbox full of emails they don't need!

When your school first joined the ICT GISP, we asked that you nominate the school team and elect one of the team members to be the primary contact.  However, we know that these details can frequently change, and as the GISP continues to grow our contact list is starting to rival that of a social media influencer!

So, it's time to do an update of our records to ensure that the right people get the right information - and that nobody ends up with another email they don't want.

Play Spot the Difference - provide us with the number of differences you can spot while also updating your contact details for your chance to win a gift hamper! Entrants with the correct answer will be put in a draw and a winner will be selected at random (I have created a python program to work that out for me) and be notified via email on the 6th of October. The solution will be published in the next newsletter. Good Luck!

ACS Australian Schools Survey 2023

ACS is surveying Australian schools to understand the state of Digital Technologies and IT education and teaching. Nationally, student interest in technical subjects continues to fall and student performance in STEM subjects has declined. ACS is a leading professional organisation for information and communication technology and it wants to know how these declines can be addressed.

Data collected in the 2023 survey will contribute to the picture of teaching, resourcing and implementation of Digital Technologies Curriculum throughout Australia. Schools participating will have the opportunity to receive a summary report of survey results once the 2023 survey is complete.
